WHAT IS DHEA

WHAT DOES DHEA DO?
DHEA is an important hormone that, some experts believe, helps reduce the effects of aging. Our DHEA levels peak in our 20s and then decline with age. Even though DHEA is manufactured naturally in the body, production decreases significantly over time which is why some people can benefit from DHEA supplements. These supplements were taken off the market in 1985 because of claims that the hormone did not really have any benefits, but was reintroduced in the United States by 1994 as a nutritional supplement.Alternative health and wellness practitioners now recommend DHEA hormone supplementation for people suffering from depression, the effect of menopause, and even obesity.Researchers at the Mayo Clinic conducted a two-year study on men and women to determine how DHEA supplementation helped improve muscle strength, muscle mass and reduce fat accumulation. Results of the study showed that people taking DHEA supplements did not lose any muscle mass or strength over the course of the two years.

Eleven men and an anaconda

Man Vs Anaconda
Deep in the steamy Amazonian jungle, half-hidden beneath the water’s surface, a reptile approaching 28 feet long lies in wait for prey to stray within striking distance. When the target is close enough, the colossal creature will make a grabbing lunge with its jaws before rapidly wrapping its phenomenally powerful body around the victim. With each exhalation of breath, the snake’s coils will constrict tighter, squeezing its prey so tightly that the heart cannot fill up with blood and so causing a cardiac arrest that probably kills the prey faster than the lack of oxygen.
Notwithstanding, for a variety of reasons – from scientific research to barefaced entertainment – we humans have the audacity to go grappling with these things.

The bite of the anaconda is not to be taken lightly, but the danger of constriction is the one all-encompassing risk for people handling serpents of this size. Fortunate, then, that attacks on humans are rare, as once caught in a coil it is very difficult to escape. Seemingly keen to follow us in all that we do, dogs have been recorded getting themselves in serious tangles with these legendary heavyweight wrestlers of the Amazon. The final clip is a reminder of the serpent’s muscular might.

Tigerfish

Piranha Fish (up to 18 inches)
While the threat this little teeth-with-gills poses to humans has been rather blown up in films – including its own self-titled horror B movie – the Piranha has a set of jaws to make any dentist nod with nervous approval. Its rows of razor-sharp gnashers are tightly packed and interlock with each other, teeth perfectly designed for the rapid piercing and shearing of meat – for which the Piranha has a rapacious appetite, as if you needed to know. The Piranha is also aggressive to its own kind and can become cannibalistic if underfed.

The body of this fish is built for speed and power; and with its scaly armour, pointed fins, and conspicuous need for a brace even when its mouth is shut, the Tigerfiish is highly prized as a game fish. Found in freshwater across Africa, the Tigerfish will chomp on practically any fish that strays into its path using strong jaw muscles and dagger-like teeth that mesh together like the Piranha’s. It’s even reputed to take on prey as big or much bigger than itself; added reason to stay out of the water. Fishermen have a healthy respect for the Goliath Tigerfish, a monster uniquely adapted to the Congo River that the National Geographic recently described as an example of “evolution on steroids”. Make that evil-lution on steroids.

Chocolate Hills (Philippines)

Composed of around 1,268 perfectly cone-shaped hills of about the same size spread over an area of more than 50 square kilometres (20 sq mi), this highly unusual geological formation, called Chocolate Hills, is located in Bohol, Philippines. There are a number of hypotheses regarding the formation of the hills. These include simple limestone weathering, sub-oceanic volcanism, the uplift of the seafloor and a more recent theory which maintains that as an ancient active volcano self-destructed, it spewed huge blocks of stone which were then covered with limestone and later thrust forth from the ocean bed.

Leopard Moth (Hypercompe scribonia)

Most Disturbing Bugs:

The Giant Leopard Moth or Eyed Tiger Moth (Hypercompe scribonia) has a distinct pattern of black rings, reminiscent to those found in its namesake the leopard. The moth’s unmistakable colorings is aposematic, meaning that they are actually "advertising" the bug’s unpalatability to potential predators.

Weird Things about Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson's Oxygen Bed:

For beauty purposes and to live longer, Michael Jackson used to sleep in an oxygen tent. He later donated the bed to a Californian medical center as a therapeutic aid for burn victims.

Jackson's Patented Anti-Gravity Boot:

Michael Jackson invented and patented special boots that allowed the wearer to lean so far forward that it seems to defy gravity. He used these for the famous "lean" in the "Smooth Criminal" music video.
Michael Jackson Egyptian Sculpture:

user mandalariangirl took a photo of this ancient Egyptian female sculpture picture in the Field Museum in Chicago. She speculates if Michael Jackson got some ideas for his plastic surgeries.

Ice Spikes

Fascinating Frozen Wonders of Nature:

These amazing ice spikes, generally known as penitentes due to their resemblance to processions of white-hooded monks, can be found on mountain glaciers and vary in size. As this accelerates, deep troughs are formed, leaving peaks of ice standing between them. Chile is home to the rugged mountain terrain of the Andes, and the severe weather extremes at different altitudes make for some stunning ice formations, like daggers looking ice field.

Ice Caves

Fascinating Frozen Wonders of Nature:

Ice caves are a type of natural cave that contain significant amounts of ice. At least a portion of the cave must have a temperature below 0 °C (32 °F) all year round, and water must have traveled into the cave's cold zone. There are many ice caves throughout the world, but the Eisriesenwelt Ice Caves in Austria are some of the largest known to man

Most Fascinating Deserts

Farafra (Egypt): the white desert:

A main geographic attraction of Farafra is its White Desert (known as 'Sahara el Beyda,' with the word 'sahara' meaning a desert). The White Desert of Egypt is located 45 km (30 miles) north of Farafra. The desert has a white, cream color (it is truly white, in clear contrast with the yellow deserts elsewhere) and has massive chalk rock formations that have been created as a result of occasional sandstorms in the area.

Taklamakan (Central Asia): a desert covered with snowfall:

Taklamakan is one of the largest sandy deserts in the world, ranking 15th in size in a ranking of the world's largest non-polar deserts. It covers an area of 270,000 km2 (100,000 sq mi) of the Tarim Basin, 1,000 kilometres (620 mi) long and 400 kilometres (250 mi) wide. It is crossed at its northern and at its southern edges by two branches of the Silk Road as travelers sought to avoid the arid wasteland.

In 2008, China's biggest desert experienced its biggest snowfall and lowest temperature after 11 consecutive days of snow. Snow is rare in the desert that covered 337,600 square kilometers, never before had the whole desert been covered.

Space Launches As You’ve Never Seen Them Before

This next humdinger depicts Atlantis’s sister Space Shuttle Endeavour as it races into space on an International Space Station assembly mission in 2008. The spectacle was captured from the Florida waterfront by an amateur photographer, though he should consider himself something of a pro after taking this shot. More a pillar of smoke than a fiery arc, the glow amidst the encroaching darkness and almost tornado-like formation of the plume are nonetheless tremendously beautiful. You wonder whether the reason these photos are so striking is that the spacecraft themselves aren’t in them.

What a shot. Taken in 1998, this awesome image shows NASA’s Lunar Prospector spacecraft shooting into the sky above Cape Canaveral, riding an Athena II rocket. Destination is in sight. Captured in time exposure, the fiery launch tail forms an arch in the foreground, while the moon, near its first quarter phase, looks on, some 250,000 miles away. Prospector will cover the distance in about 5 days. Prepare for blast-off as we explore stunning photos of space launches and wonder what it all means from an environmental point of view.
The Prospector mission carried an array of instruments to map the surface composition and other facets of the Earth’s only natural satellite. The results improved our understanding of the Moon’s origin, evolution and resources, yet we still managed to make our mark there in what some might see as a slightly bungling and absurd manner. From its orbital vantage point, just 63 miles above the Moon’s surface, Prospector was deliberately crashed into a crater near the lunar south pole in a failed attempt to detect the presence of water. Maybe it was worth a shot.
